The $1500 Capilano Program Award

Each year the Digital Animation faculty will choose one student to receive an entry scholarship of $1500 based on an outstanding entry portfolio.  All students who submit a portfolio by the application deadline are elibigle for the award as long as they meet the Univeristies requirements.  You can read more about the CAPP award here.

How to Apply  

  1. Download the 2010 Admissions kit and read about the program and the application process.
  2. Apply on-line for admission to Capilano University.  
  3. Mail, courier or drop off a disposable portfolio* of your owndrawings and designs directly to:  Animation Department c/o CapilanoUniversity, 2055 Purcel Way, North Vancouver BC, CANADA  V7J 3H5.  DONOT SEND ORIGINALS - PORTFOLIOS WILL NOT BE RETURNED.  
  4. Include a current resume and letter of intent describing reasons for applying to the Digital Animation program and your long-term career goals.

*a "disposable" portfolio is one that contains printed copies of youroriginal artwork.  See Portfolio Advice in the admissions kit for important information onwhat we look for in a portfolio.

Acceptanceinto the Digital Animation program is based on a ranked portfolioreview of all the applicants. Portfolios should arrive in our office byApril 6, 2010. Portfolios will be reviewed by a selection committeeand successful applicants will be notified by the end of April.  Lateapplications are accepted until the program is full, however it is inyour best interest to submit before the deadline.

Successful applicants will display excellent drawing, design and creative problem solving abilities.

Ideal candidates will have a background in classical animation and/or computer graphics. Graduates of our Commercial Animation program have first choice in attending the Digital Animation program. Candidates shortlisted on the basis of portfolios will be asked to attend a personal interview, after which final selections will be made.

Interviews

Candidates who meet the admission requirements will be requested to attend a personal interview to evaluate their potential to succeed in the Digital Animation program. During the interview candidates will be asked to present a recent portfolio and sketchbook(s) representative of their best work.

Note: Phone interviews may be arranged for out of town applicants.

Successful candidates will be notified by phone and/or writing as to their terms of acceptance. Note: Acceptance may be conditional upon upgrading your skills and abilities.

Applicants who show promise but do not have the necessary skills at this time are encouraged to seek additional training and re-apply for the program in the future.


Admission Requirements

Candidates must be at least 18 years of age and have completed secondary school. Applicants are encouraged to have two years professional art experience or have completed a post-secondary diploma in a related discipline such as Traditional Animation, Graphic Design, Illustration, Film, Television, Computer Graphics and Fine or Visual Arts before entering the program. As well, applicants should have a working knowledge of computer systems and graphics software.

Professional Standards

AllDigital Animation students are required to adhere to high standardsof academic performance and professional behaviour. Failure to do somay result in expulsion from the program.

Financial Aid

Manykinds of financial aid including bursaries, loans, awards andscholarships may be available to eligible individuals. The UniversitiesFinancial Aid Office can provide specific information.
